Kids' Summer Adventure Anyway
This week Kids' Summer Adventure has been going on in Downtown Bellevue at Chism Beach Park. Despite heavy downpours and thunder (when does it thunder in Seattle anyway?), our Kids' Program leaders and a few dozen kids braved the rain to spend time together swimming, playing games, hearing Bible teaching, and getting to build friendships. As the pastors who were lending a hand came back to the office in the mid afternoon looking like wet dogs, they kept saying the kids swam till their lips were blue and hardly noticed the rain at all.
Not noticing the rain is God's special grace to children who live in Seattle, because the adults sure notice.
While praying that God would somehow break the rain for KSA James 5:17 came to mind: "Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth. Then he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit."
So God listens to our prayers. Now, three years is a bit much, but a few breaks and some sunshine between now and Thursday at 2:00 p.m. when Kids' Summer Adventure is over would be a wonderful answer to prayer, and needed grace for us adults too.
